The Imp
The Imp
Childhood memories - Granny and Grandad’s Hillman Imp.
When I’ve publicly shown this painting I’ve had quite a heartwarming response. People of a certain age remember their grandparents having this car, a Hilman Imp, and I was no exception.
This image is taken from old slides on my Uncle Alf’s camera. My brother had them converted to photos so I was able to laser print it and transfer to canvas - a lengthy process.
Its a bit hit and miss but I like that - it gives a shabby faded quality that sits well with the mood of the painting. These are faded memories but they are rose-tinted too, almost other-worldly.
Acrylic, collage, photo transfer and gold leaf on canvas
